Chess Instructor
Responsibilities
- Teach chess lessons based off of the Games For Life curriculum.
- Engage a class of elementary/middle school students.
- Make life principles interesting and relevant to children.
- Be a positive role model for students.
Qualifications
- Experience with kids: teachers and ex-teachers are urged to apply.
- Must be good working with groups of children.
- Must be fluent in English and be a good communicator.
- Being good at chess is not a must, but you must have a passion for chess and be willing to work on your chess.
- Must have a clean criminal background (no felonies or any crime against children) and be willing to submit to a background check.
- Must be clean and well-groomed.
- Dependable: Must be punctual and on time to any scheduled class.
- Must be able to lift and carry several chess sets to various school sites.
- Must be able to stand/walk around for the entire class (1-2 hours).
Hours
- Part-time hours (usually M-F after-school hours)
Many of our sessions are during after-school time; instructors usually only work 1-2 hours a day.
For our most dependable and reliable instructors we will try to offer additional hours during the evening and weekends.
Compensation
$12-20 an hour (depending on experience)
We provide (paid and unpaid) training to teach instructors to teach their kids. Most of the kids we teach are new to chess and any level of chess player can teach them. So if you enjoy chess and are good with kids, you are encouraged to apply!
